Measurement of the surface excitation parameter of Kapton, Polyethylene (PE), Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), Polystyrene (PS) and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)

Reflection electron energy loss spectra (REELS) were measured for five insulating organic compounds: Kapton, polyethylene (PE), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), polystyrene (PS) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), as well Ni Si, in the range between 200 1600 eV. The average number of surface excitations a single crossing determined from experimental data found to be considerably smaller than earlier studied materials, which mainly consisted elemental metals [Surf. Sci. 486(2001)L461]. excitation parameter, material parameter used quantify relative intensity losses (photo)electron spectroscopy, was extracted compared with values literature. results indicate that only have minor influence on quantification XPS polymers. On other hand, correction turns out essential measurements inelastic mean free path polymers when metal is reference material.
